This was my first series of digital works, completed between December 1996 and March 1997. The pieces are thematically linked by the image of the pyramid.
The series started out as 7 drawings I had made in series in one of my sketchbooks — the first 7 images of the series are digital interpretations of those drawings. Once I started looking through the rest of my sketchbooks, I found many drawings in which the pyramid made an appearance so I kept adding to the series until it reached its current size.
Pyramid Suite made its online debut shortly after its completion in 1997, on a now-defunct Geocities website of mine.
The images are made at a 1.35:1 aspect ratio which, as far as I know, is not a standard ratio for anything. I arrived at this proportion based on a combination of factors: the proportions of the source sketches (10" x 8"), what looked good on the screen, and what would fit on my tiny 13" monitor with all of the control palettes of my software.
I've given the dimensions of this digital series as an aspect ratio because the pieces are made in Adobe Illustrator, a program which allows me to make the images such that I can scale them to any size (postage stamp to billboard and beyond) without losing sharpness or image quality.
